KitchenAid 8-Quart Cast-Iron Oval Casserole, Garnet Review

I've never been disappointed with KitchenAid products and this dutch oven is no exception. The color matched our kitchen perfectly. It has a contemporary look to it, unlike some of the other outdated models. The porcelain finish is good and tough. The lid has little nubs under it to promote self-basting. Highly recommended!

Stainless Steel Kenmore 1.1 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave & Pizza Oven Review

Stainless Steel Kenmore 1.1 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave and Pizza Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This reveiw may come across as being contradictory, but it accurate. First of all my Wife loves the microwave. In the summer she puts pizza, fish sticks, fries, etc.. into the pizza drawer. The pizza drawer cooks well and evenly, without heating up the entire house. The Microwave portion of the unit works as designed. You put food in the microwave and seconds later, it comes out hot. I know that was not a technical description, but it basically works as one expects a Microwave to work. So it is a good idea and my wife swears by the concept, however......
However the Unit is going back to the shop for its second repair. Right underneath the microwave door their is a plastic plate, the looks like metal. Twice the plastic plate has split wide open. The microwave continues to work, but we are unsure if there is any leakage of the microwave, due to this crack. When we took it in the first time, a technician knew the exact reason we were bringing it in, before we opened our mouths. There evidently has been a number of these Kenmore Pizza / Microwave ovens, that had been brought in for the same repair. It appears that the plate is being overly taxed by the heat being generated from the top, by the Microwave, as well as the pizza oven at the bottom. By receiving heat from the top and bottom, plate prematurely fails.
Well, I going to take this back to Sears to see if they will trade it for another microwave, although I know my wife will be disappointed in that she will have have two devices (two footprints) to perform the tasks that this single device did. So, 4 stars for the microwaves performance, 0 star for the prematurely failing plate on the front of the microwave and 0 stars for Sears having the data points to recognize this issue and not addressing it with their customers. I would not buy it.

100 QT (100 Quart) STAINLESS STEEL STOCK POT W/ LID (COMMERCIAL GRADE NSF) Review

100 QT (100 Quart) STAINLESS STEEL STOCK POT W/ LID (COMMERCIAL GRADE NSF)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great heavy, heavy duty pot. I use it for my home beer brewing as a brew kettle over a propane burner and it is awesome! It is big enough that I never have boil overs and the steel is so thick I had my valve fitting welded on instead of using a removable weld-less through fitting. The bottom is tri-clad and about 1/2" thick. It is a great value. The inside and lower outside of the pot is not finished to a high smooth gloss like some of the more expensive pots but I have not found any negatives to that as far as cleaning or cooking go. I use a Scotch Brite pad for cleaning it and have noticed it getting a smoother finish. The handles and lid are incredibly well made. I know I will never need to replace it. I just might buy another one.

Toastess TMP-397 4-Cup Electric Multi-Purpose Pot Review

Toastess TMP-397 4-Cup Electric Multi-Purpose Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to own the Toastmaster Hot Pot but I accidentally left it too close to the burner one day and I needed a new one. I liked the Toastmaster but I wanted to try something a little more aesthetically pleasing so I bought the Toastess as a replacement. One of the things I loved about the Toastmaster was that it automatically turned off when it reached a certain temperature; the Toastess does not do this and regularly boils over. The Toastmaster's electrical cord was long but never really in the way. The Toastess cord is located underneath the pot and makes the pot sit on an angle. The black hot plate inside the pot of the Toastess is already peeling off and I've only used it maybe ten times and I never had that problem with the Toastmaster. The Toastmaster has a built-in strainer and the lid is removable. The Toastess has neither option. If you're looking for something like this, get the Toastmaster!

Minden Master Range-Top Indoor Grill Review

Minden Master Range-Top Indoor Grill
Average Reviews:

I was very excited to get this grill for my birthday after researching the best indoor grill. I started off making grilled zucchini and found it to be pretty smokey, but the taste was good. I next tried grilled chicken and felt like I was going to pass out from how INTENSE the grill smoked!! I had opened all the windows before grilling and it was still terrible!! I have used it one time since with chicken also, and the same result. I would honestly use this grill several times a week if the smoke wasn't so bad. I will again state that the taste is good, and is pretty close to real outdoor grill flavor. I just can't get over the smoke!!

For those who don't enjoy grilling outside in the winter, this range-top grill brings the unique quality of outdoor grilling indoors--in any type of weather. The round-shaped unit offers an opening on the bottom that allows it sit over the burner of any standard, raised electric, gas, or propane stove. Enjoy open-flame cooking while keeping the mess of barbecuing contained within the grill. The indoor grilling tool features the same heavy-duty porcelain-coated grate design, enameled-steel firebox, and cover as the outdoor Minden Master Grill. Use it to barbecue anything from steaks and burgers to chicken or fish. The unit's heat shield helps ensure food cooks evenly, plus it deflects dripping fat and grease into a trough to prevent flair-ups. For added convenience, silicon handles offer safe portability, plus they can be removed for cleaning the grill in the dishwasher or self-cleaning oven. Be sure to use the grilling tool on a range with adequate ventilation since it performs similarly to a real barbecue range. The range-top grill measures approximately 17 by 15 by 8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Health Smart Open Faced Indoor/ Outdoor Grill Review

Health Smart Open Faced Indoor/ Outdoor Grill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great grill for those who like to grill steaks but cannot use a gas/charcoal outdoor grill for whatever reason. The last apartment I lived would not allow ANY grilling outdoors (which is really sick as I live in South Florida and it is currently the only US region that is not freezing this Jan 2, 2009 with the exception of Hawaii). I was skeptical at first but this grill does great work on those thick sirloin steaks we buy at Costco. I had mine for probably 7-8 years 1-2 times a week before it recently just quit heating up. The non-stick surface had worn away some time ago but who cares it still cooked great steaks. That's pretty much all I used it for other than toasting garlic bread.
I didn't even realize you could use it outdoors until I starting searching online for it this week.
It is not the same as a gas or charcoal grill. I have a charcoal grill at my building where I live now but by the time you lug the charcoal, fluid, utensils, etc down the elevator to the community grill, light the coals and then WAIT for them to get red hot, we still use this little grill more often. You don't have to have all the planets aligned to use this one on a weeknight (weather, charcoal, fluid, and TIME!).
I don't know why people complain about it being slow I always used the highest setting and could sear and grill 1-2 inch thick steaks to medium well in 20 minutes. I have never owned a gas grill so I can't compare, but it's a whole lot easier, convenient & faster than charcoal grilling that's for sure. You can't get the taste of over the fire grilling of course, but they sure are tasty in their own right when I shake granulated garlic and freshly grind black pepper on the steaks before grilling.

Electric Stainless Steel Express Garlic Roaster Review

Electric Stainless Steel Express Garlic Roaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This garlic roaster is almost perfect. The only issue I have is the 27 minute default, which I guess would be fine for small heads of garlic but for my first roasting I decided to follow the lead of others that have owned this unit and I increased the time to about 32 minutes, which was just right.
I used to use an 8" x 8" casserole dish with a layer of rock salt on the bottom, put in four heads and would cover them up with more rock salt then bake at 400 degrees for one hour.
That worked great but it was tedious and heated up the house.
Now I'll be roasting garlic every chance I get with this little gem AND I get the extra benefit of having garlic infused olive oil as a byproduct!
Clean up is a breeze because of the Teflon coated interior.
The only concern I have is the staying power of the Terracotta ring that sits beneath the roasting pan. If that breaks, I'll probably resort to using the rock salt again as a base for the pan.
If you love roasted garlic, you have got to get one of these. It's simple, takes up about as much space as a 4 quart sauce pan and produces perfectly roasted garlic every time.

We love the mini donut maker! My kids love donuts and I love healthy eating and this donut maker allows us all to be happy with baked, not fried, donuts that are ready in a few minutes! It comes with a recipe that we've tweaked to be a healthy donut -- chocolate wheat are our favorite. We've had a good time with all the topping possibilities too. I'm thinking of giving it as a gift too. (The donuts do taste different from the fried fair food, but they are a hot, fresh, and inexpensive treat at home anytime!)

Better Houseware 441/3 Non-Stick 3-Cup Egg Poacher Review

Better Houseware 441/3 Non-Stick 3-Cup Egg Poacher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product several weeks ago and after the first use, I knew I was in trouble. The eggs stuck to the so called "non-stick" cups, even after I had sprayed them with a nonstick spray. A sponge and latex spatula did nothing to remove the sticky mess that remained. I had to resort to fingernails to remove it, resulting in scratches to the so called "nonstick coating". I used it several more times with the same result. I contacted the seller and they referred my complaint to the manufacturer. The manufacturer replied that because I had used something other than wood, nylon and silicon (i.e. my fingernails) to clean the so called "non-stick" cups, they would not replace the product.
Save your money, this is junk. And shame on the manufacturer for not offering a refund regardless of the problem. You get what you pay for!

My son got this for Christmas. The recipe instructions are poor. The batter does not cook evenly and there is not indicator to tell you it is done. There are many crevices for batter to get into, making it difficult to clean (I had to take mine apart to properly clean it). Not recommended.

20 QT STAINLESS STEEL STOCK POT W/ LID (COMMERCIAL GRADE NSF)
Average Reviews:

Gorgeous sturdy pot! Exactly what I was looking for and what I got. Nice and roomy for all my cooking stuffs and Lord knows I like that. Its also not heavy, but it's sturdy and not cheap! Lid fits nicely to form a clean seal. I have made many a nice meal in it, including Spicy Sicilian Chicken which requires a full 5lb chicken among many other things and that was no match for my lovely new pot!
Clean up is a so easy, no stains, the pot literally wipes right up! I use my pot on my Ceramic stove top and it really is perfect for it. It fits nicely on the burner. I love that it is stainless steel so as not to mess up my foods tastes or leach any harmful chemicals into my foods!
I feel this is the best bargain for a pot in this category! Its an awesome pot that anyone would be proud to own. Use, then store or display, it looks nice on my ceramic stove top and functions perfectly. Couldn't ask for better.
Do be aware of your dimensions regarding clearance from your stove top to whatever maybe above your stove, your microwave, range hood or kitchen cabinets. We have a microwave above our kitchen stove top and although the clearance is plenty fine, when removing the lid I still banged into the microwave's base of the door a couple times.

Ultrex Vantage 18-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set Review

Ultrex Vantage 18-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just now found out Ultrex cookware was recalled years ago because it is dangerous.
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml03/03069.html
The coating can separate from the pan and be forcefully propelled from the pan. I had no idea until now. I bought two sets from HSN and they never notified the customers that the product was dangerous. The Ultrex company went out of business as soon as they realized the product was unsafe so that they would not have to cover the lifetime warranty. As usual, HSN claims no responsibility for endangering lives. Furthermore, it is illegal to resell a recalled product. Please do not buy or use this product.

Paderno 1.5 Quart Stainless Steel Double Boiler Review

This is the perfect pot for making delicate sauces, melting chocolate, or making puddings and creams. You fill the chamber with water until the glass vile shows that it is full. You then place the pot on the stove (gas or electric) and the contents heat very gently. Just this past weekend, my friend and I made chocolate bark for about 50 people and huge amounts of chocolate melted in what seemed like a few minutes and we never had to worry about burning the chocolate or getting water into it. I recommend this pot to anyone who cooks or bakes regularly.

M'plus Interface Disc for Induction Review

M'plus Interface Disc for Induction
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, with trepidation after reading the previous review I decided to try one of these. First some background.
I plan on replacing my 15 year old radiant cooktop and have decided that induction is the way to go. Cooking - particularly Italian - is my hobby and stress reducer. Before investing in both the cooktop and the almost $800 that it will cost to upgrade my 30 amp wiring to 40 amp, I decided to do some testing.
Several weeks ago I purchased a Waring Pro single burner induction cooktop (Waring Pro ICT100 Professional Induction Cooktop) to test out the concept. I was really impressed with induction cooking but, like many others, have a number of favorite pans which are not induction capable.
I had thought about a hybrid radiant/induction cooktop such as the Thermador but really would prefer more power and controllability such as available with the GE all induction cooktop. Thus I decided to try the induction plate figuring that, even though it didn't work for the previous reviewer, it might work under different circumstances and that I could always return it if it didn't work.
It arrived yesterday and I've now done several tests. The Waring Pro ICT100 is rated at 1400 watts. Mauviel's instruction say "Always use the interface disc on a low temperature." Consequently, I started at the lowest setting and increased only to medium.
Initially, I just used a copper bottom pan with several inches of water in the bottom. I used a cooking thermometer to check the temperature of the water and an infra-red thermometer to check the temperature of the top of the induction disc and the burner surface. After the water had heated to 180 degrees the surface of the induction disc was also 180 degrees and the surface of the cooktop was about 345 degrees. I had no problem with the cooktop turning off because of the temperature.
This morning I tried using one of my favorite pans -- A Calphalon non-stick frittata pan that my wife gave me several years ago. I used only the larger half of the pan to simply make scrambled eggs. While it took somewhat longer to heat the pan, I was able to make the eggs without a problem. The pan heated to about 220 degrees with both the surface of the disc and the cooktop being 220 degrees. Perhaps the difference between the burner surface temperature in the two tests is related to differing heat transfer properties between the two pans.
Obviously this thing does work. I only gave it three stars because I would have liked more specific instructions regarding the temperature at which it could be used. Mauviel does state "Never use the booster on the induction hob" but there is a great range between "low temperature" and that. It would be nice to have more specific information -- perhaps in the form of maximum wattage. I really wouldn't like to test out the disc to failure on a new $1700 cooktop!
Still, if you need to use non magnetic cookware on an induction cooktop, this does work. I can even picture buying a second one to have available if I need to use two non-induction capable pots/pans at the same time.
Now to convince my wife! ;-)
Addendum March 12, 08:
Well, the new GE induction cooktop was installed today. I tried the induction disk and it worked just as before. No problems with overheating. Of course, I did limit the induction setting to about 1/2 maximum.
Addendum August 20, 2008:
Well, I've used this several more times and am more and more satisfied with how it works. If I could, I would change my review rating to 4 stars. It certainly is a useful addition if one has an induction cooktop and some favorite non-induction capable cookware. I have used it with a power of 7 1/2 (out of 9) on my GE cooktop without problem.
