Broil King PCG-10 Professional Portable Nonstick Griddle Review

Broil King PCG-10 Professional Portable Nonstick Griddle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love mine. It's big, so be aware if you have little counter space. I've got five in my family, and this grill is big enough for bacon on one side, pancakes on the other. It's easy to clean. I've had mine over a year, and have had no problems with the finish. Yes, it does have a hot spot on the left side, but I use it to my advantage. I've had some restaurant experience, and our flat tops were almost always at different temps. Something cooking too fast? Move it over! Put those sausages on the right, as it's a little cooler, and they take longer to cook.
I have had one problem: my probe thermostat went. I called the company, they took the date code off the unit (it was a gift from my Amazon wish list!), and sent a new probe out. The warranty was 30 months! Nice.
I say, if you're a heavy duty griddle user like I am, this is the TANK of the griddle world!

Commercial quality, but designed with the home chef in mind, this 1500-watt portable griddle makes it easy to cook up large batches of breakfast favorites when gathering with friends and family. Use it for anything from strips of crispy bacon and sunny-side-up eggs to fluffy pancakes, hash browns, and much more. The griddle's large, 21-by-12-inch, charcoal-grey cooking surface comes with a nonstick surface to help ensure effortless food release, while its removable stainless-steel backsplash keeps food contained and helps prevent messy spatters. Even more, the unit's rear legs flip down to elevate the back of the griddle when cooking foods like bacon, so fat drains away from food for healthier results. Other highlights include adjustable heat up to 425 degrees F, cool-touch stainless-steel handles, a removable grease tray, and an immersible base (with the temperature probe removed) for quick cleanup. The UL-listed portable griddle measures 12-1/2 by 29 by 5-1/2 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

This is a great all-purpose pot to have for baking beans, obviously, but also for slow oven baked dishes like ragouts, choucroute garnis, cassoulets and is the classic vessel for nabes, those layered one-pot Japanese meals. It makes a great soup tureen as it holds heat very well and an wonderful off-beat use for it is as a leprechaun's pot to hold the peanut butter-filled butterscotch-coated Ritz cracker cookie "gold coins" that I make for St. Patrick's Day.

STOVE TOP POTATO BAKER Review

STOVE TOP POTATO BAKER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very poorly made, shoddy product. The metal is very lightweight. The cover does not fit the bottom. It holds two potatoes, maximum. I followed the instructions to use a low flame. After 70 minutes the potatoes had a burned spot on the bottom and required an extra 10 minutes in the microwave before they were cooked. My mother used to use a stovetop potato baker. The bottom was compartmented cast iron and the top was just ordinary enameled metal. It worked like a charm. I was trying to save money on propane by avoiding the oven for baked potatoes, but this crumby pot does not work.

Coleman 2 Burner Dual Fuel Compact Liquid Fuel Stove Review

Coleman 2 Burner Dual Fuel Compact Liquid Fuel Stove
Average Reviews:

I have had a Coleman dual fuel stove for many years. It has been great for camping, of course, as all coleman stoves are but it was also great during a hurricane. We lost power for two weeks and had all electric. I had no coleman fuel on hand but did have gasoline. We were able to at least keep baby bottles warm and cook our meals every day. Excellent for any automobile camping and very handy as part of your emergency kit.

Select Brands Over Easy Omelet Express Review

If there is one thing I have learned this is it:
1. There is nothing good about a product that does everything.
2. A product may make one thing good and and the rest very bad.
When I started my search for an omelet pan, I found a lot of these that make sandwiches, deserts and omelets. I just wanted a good omelet pan. This is the best omelet maker I have ever used. It is so easy, non stick and makes perfect omelets. I recommend that no more than 2 eggs to each half of the pan. You will get 2 servings of fluffy beautiful omelets. You will not have any spill over. Clean up is a breeze. Just use a wet paper towel and that is it. If you like omelets, this is the pan for you.
Now if I could just find a good sandwich pan.

Coleman High Stand for use with Coleman 2 or 3 Burner Stoves or a Chest Cooler Review

Coleman High Stand for use with Coleman 2 or 3 Burner Stoves or a Chest Cooler
Average Reviews:

I bought this item with a Coleman camping stove, which has turned out to be excellent (the stove). Regardless of whether you extend this stand fully or peg the legs in place IT IS NOT SAFE. The liklihood that your stove will fall through this stand is extremely high. I spent a long time experimenting with it before being forced to return it and buy a table. On the package another suggested use is as a stand for suspending a rubbish bag. If that is all that it can be used for, it's not worth the cash. A redesign is needed.

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Quart Oval Pasta Pot with Glass Lid, Orange Review

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Quart Oval Pasta Pot with Glass Lid, Orange
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am kicking myself that I decided to buy this Rachael Ray version over Analon's original design. I figured I'd save myself 30 bucks. This pan is really thin and heats pasta water rapidly because of it, but it is horrible for soups, legumes, etc. Because the walls/bottom of the pan are so thin, stuff sticks and scorches very easily. It's best for pasta or corn on the cob.
I do understand that it being lightweight is a plus for a pasta pot, as it makes it easier to lift and pour...but I really was hoping it could do double duty like Analon's oval 5qt saute pan. Thankfully, though it tends to burn my soup, it does clean up easily!

Presto Quick Burger Hamburger Maker Review

Presto Quick Burger Hamburger Maker
Average Reviews:

What a piece of junk!!!
I received one of these as a gift. I didn't really need one, since I can cook burgers indoors just fine on my George Foreman grill, but I thought I'd give it a try anyways. First off, the instructions require you to add butter or non-stick spray to the cooking surface. Why would this product not be made with a non-stick surface to begin with? The pieces of this product are all loose; not even the hinge is permanently attached, so pieces are constantly rattling around or coming apart accidentally. When it operation, the handle has an unnecessary latch that is awkward to open and close. Why a latch at all? The instructions also maintain that the device be set only on a heat-safe non-combustible surface, so don't plan on holding this or setting it down on a plastic laminate countertop. Aside from the fact that it only cooks one burger at a time (obviously), the grease collector is directly beneath the (loose) cooking plate beneath the cooking surface. So if you plan on cooking multiple burgers, there is no easy way to empty the grease trap without allowing the device to first cool down and then reheat after emptying. It is just an incredibly poor design, not taking its actual construction into account. Finally, in regards to its construction, the handle broke off the FIRST time I used it, while I was doing nothing unusual outside of its original instructions. Incredibly cheap plastic construction that apparently shatters under the weak compressive strength of ground beef! I was actually relieved that at least my kitchen would not be cluttered with such an unnecessary piece of junk as I chucked it into the dumpster. I would not spend 50 cents on such a product, let alone $30! I am shocked with how expensive this piece of junk is, and am equally shocked with the number of POSITIVE reviews for this product on this page! I strongly recommend not buying this product. Buy a George Foreman grill instead; much more versatile and user-friendly for the same price.

Coleman Exponent Feather 442 Dual Fuel Stove Review

Coleman Exponent Feather 442 Dual Fuel Stove
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Coleman Feather 442 inspires a little love, a little wariness, and some real dislikes.
The good points of this stove include: The sharing of many parts with other dual-fuel Coleman stoves, such as the 533 Sportster (generator, windshield, generator base, etc.); its light weight, good performance and a clean, hot burn when using naptha (AKA white gas, Coleman fuel); ability to burn unleaded (but only in an emergency as you will eventually clog the generator); and smooth pump system, another part universally shared with nearly every Coleman stove and lantern of the recent memory and current production.
Bad points of this stove include: The fact that you *must* extend the feet for a more stable platform - it won't sit flat otherwise (unlike the Exponent Multi Fuel); the base does not adjust for slope (again, unlike the Exponent Multi Fuel); the extended profile is very high, perhaps an unsafe height for large pots for a portable, backpacking stove; and the number of pumps required to achieve operating pressure both before a running prime and after the stove gets started.
The ugly points of this stove are not to Coleman's credit, truly heinous, IMHO, of this company and could jeopardize what little of its reputation is left with some consumers: Chinese import junk-like manufacture, assembly and quality control! For example, the stove I received had poor underspray of the paint coating around the pump and fill cap seals; the generator was mis-aligned and twisted, possibly as the result of massive torque applied to the generator nut at the valve seal (interestingly, while Coleman states that 'only generators for use with kerosene have notched seal nuts,' the generator nut on this stove had notches); the fill cap had a poorly stamped, and slightly mis-aligned clamp for the pressure washer, resulting in a poor seal (no pressure) without undue tightening; and a mis-intalled rubber 'lanyard' for the stove and filler cap.
The result of the poor cap seal was that I was initially stymied when attempting to pressurize the stove for the first time as a fill with fresh Coleman fuel - kinda fooled me, since i used the same pressure as when using my Coleman Exponent Multi Fuel. However, upon tightening, pressurization (about 25 pumps), and lighting, the stove provided a nice blue controllable flame after the first minute of firing.
Considering these initial impressions and the very reasonable cost for this product, I think the stove is OK. And another good point, if you carry three large-headed nails, is that you can anchor the stove in soft ground by using the hole perforations in the stove's extensible feet - adding a bit of safety and stability. I have not tried this stove in 20mph+ winds as yet, but i'd bring along a windscreen just in case.

West Bend 74706 Countertop Oven with Rotisserie Attachment Review

West Bend 74706 Countertop Oven with Rotisserie Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Update: 6/2/2011
This oven is still going strong as of Summer 2011! We've used it almost daily for the last 2+ years and it almost always is used to replace our big oven, especially during the hot days of summer when a big oven heats up the room too much. Not a peep of trouble out of it, it cooks everything just the way we want and quickly (due to convection fan) and we are delighted to see that it is still being sold on Amazon as a current model! Almost tempted to order another one to keep stored for the day this oven in use dies, but, I'm pretty confident, that won't be for a long while. It has passed the test of time and continued use with an A+ rating!Just received our West Bend 74706 and tried it right out. Be advised to wipe it down inside and out for dust and then heat it up empty for about 15 minutes as it may smoke a bit as it heats up for the first time. First to note that it is built extremely solid. I've looked at every oven like this at Costco, WalMart, Sears, etc and not one had the solidity that this one has. The handle on the West Bend is rock solid as is the entire build quality of this model. Many other model's handles flex up and down considerably during use and I question how long they would last. We also like the analog dials rather then digital (and easier to see if you use reading glasses and want to avoid hard-to-read digital displays). Low tech adds up to ease of use and less that can go wrong over time! It also means more $$ went into the rest of the oven design and quality, not into hight tech controls! Also to note, YES!, this is a convection model which allows faster cook times and much more uniform heating across the oven. The oven convection fan and motor do emit a hum of sorts, but, nothing that is loud and annoying. We've baked chicken in it and tried the toaster function as well. Cook times were fast for the boneless chicken and the texture was perfect, still moist and not charred like some smaller ovens can do since the meat, etc., is too darn close to the cooking elements in those smaller models. Convection also allows lower heat output and more heat element cycling (not on 100% of the time) to allow reduced electricity consumption.Toast takes no more time then a normal toaster and browns very uniformly across the oven. The oven's profile is smaller then we expected (a plus for a limited counter spot) and yet it will hold a 12" pizza pan or a 5X9 cook pan. The oven seems well insulated as well and does a great job at holding in the heat where it needs to be. We haven't tried the rotisserie yet, but, the hardware included is like the rest of this oven, well made and solid. With very limited use as of yet, my feeling is that we'll continue to praise this model as we use it more and that it deserves the high ratings most owners gave it. It'll do it all and use only 110V in the process versus that 220V oven you use for a small item that could go in the West Bend instead. It's a keeper!

Presto Power Cup Concentrators work great in the Presto microwave Popper. After about 8 uses with the same PowerCup, still only 5-8 kernels not popped. That is a much better result than the Microwavable store bought bags!! We are even using old pop corn. At first I was skepticle, but even tho it is recommended to use a new cup each time for "best" results, 5-8 kernels left is fantastic. Highly recommended if you have the Presto Microwave Popper.

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box Review

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a Texan (Texaswomyn, right?) so I love smoked meat. Brisket, chicken, ribs, pork chops, beef roast, etc. We've got smokers: two big 'ole charcoal smokers, a big 'ole propane/electric smoker, and I've even got one of them Cameron stove top smokers, (I'm gonna drop the bad grammar now) so I was quite curious about this smoker accessory. First off, it's small. I mean, Rhode Island small. It's about 6 inches long, 3 inches wide and maybe 1.5 inches tall, so the wood you use to smoke with has to be chipped up very small and it doesn't hold a lot; I didn't weigh or measure what it holds but it's probably not over a cup of chips. One big problem is that small quantity of wood doesn't last long enough to provide a good "smoke" flavor and create that highly desired smoke ring on meat.
If your only desire is for a hint of smoke to mask the charcoal (and heaven forbid - charcoal lighter fluid) taste from your grilled steak or chicken breast, then this little box will do that, to a small degree. Be sure you soak the wood first so it lasts a little longer and smokes a little more.
And hey, Rhode Island - no offense, OK ya'll?

Pomaireware Clay Tortilla Warmer, Small, Review

Pomaireware Clay Tortilla Warmer, Small,
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product arrived with a lid which grossly did not fit the pan. I finally got it to somewhat fit using a bench grinder. The whole point of clay pots is that you can steam food inside, and this means the lid must fit the pan pretty well. There is always some variation ("character" they call it) in hand made clay pots, but this is too much. The packing boxes gave evidence of having been packed in Mexico or Central America (the nature of the box and the use of woodshavings rather than the more expensive -- and ecologically damaging-- bubblewrap) and the problem is probably quality control at the packing source. You can pick up a tortilla warmer and other clay pots at any Mexican stall market for 5-$10, tops. Some will have good fitting tops, others not. So you look at the wares and bargain. The whole point of buying from an importer and paying a really steep markup (especially since NAFTA) is that you expect that they will do the quality control for you.
Well, not in my case anyway. Other reviewers have found these products excellent. Maybe I was just unlucky. But be prepared to send it back if the lit doesn't fit pretty tight. Otherwise, it is not bad (and lead free), unless you are planning a trip to Mexico. Then buy your own and have some fun haggling.
Update on this review: I sent an email to the distributor regarding the bad fit after I had written the review. They called me within two hours and offered to replace the unit. He said that they did sometimes have quality control problems with the manufacturer in Chile (not Mexico as I had assumed). They sent me a well fittng replacement very quickly, and I am totally satisfied. I would raise my rating to fourstars.
