Mainstays Microwave Express Cooker Steamer w/Rack Review

Mainstays Microwave Express Cooker Steamer w/Rack
Average Reviews:

I have owned one of these cookers for 3 years now. I have cooked chicken, fish and vegetables in it without problems. I have made several whole chickens in it that come out moist, tender and fall off the bone. No special preparation is needed; just dress your chicken as you normally do with butter, garlic and seasonings or barbecue sauce. Cooking times might vary depending on microwave oven, but in my 800W oven 7 minutes per pound is all it takes to cook a chicken. For example, a 4 pound bird is done in 28 minutes flat. Fish is cooked in less time, and I have steamed veggies, too, for use in soups, stews and side dishes.
A minimum .9 cubic foot interior room microwave oven with a turntable is needed for this cooker to rotate freely. I also recommend keeping the directions and menu book that comes with the cooker for future references when cooking food. This booklet tells which openings on the cooker to use for what food item, how much water to use for steaming, and how long to cook your food choice. Clean up is minimal. I highly recommend this microwave cooker.

I'll keep this review short and sweet...
This is an economical rice cooker and it gets the job done. If you need it for a dorm, apartment, or are trying to be frugal with your money then go for it.
There are better rice cookers out there, but you'll have to shell out more for them.
Good luck shopping :)

Sunpentown SC-12 26-Pound Rice Dispenser Review

Sunpentown SC-12 26-Pound Rice Dispenser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My main intention for this purchase was a result of an infestation of weevils in my existing rice container (steel trash can) even though I've used it for over 10 years without any issues. I wanted a more bugproof enclosure for storing rice.
The product performed poorly. The top lid feels cheap and does not close airtight. There are no seals or latches, it simply rests on top. My $4 IKEA candy jar has a better seal. The 150g dispenser is not accurate. It can be off by as much as 1/3 a cup and depends on how long I hold the button down. Very disappointing.
The photo here is inaccurate as it is a Very off white colored, reminscent of 80's style appliances and reminds me of white products that have yellowed from time and sun exposure. The dispensing button is loose and rattles in place. The receiver cup sticks to rice even after being washed and dried.
It will do as advertised, hold (I dumped a full 25 lb bag in) and dispense rice but unless you have a "rice bug" problem, there's no reason to trouble yourself with this inaccurate, rather clumsy dispenser or any dispenser when any plastic container will do.
Should you decide to try it out anyway and get that email from Air & Water about a survey for $25 off your next order, you'll find out after you fill it out that it only applies to $200+ purchase.

Buying rice in bulk means less trips to the grocery store and savings on the bill; however, storing large quantities of rice at home can sometimes get a little tricky. A better alternative to the unshapely, non-resealable bags from the market, this thoughtfully designed rice dispenser not only keeps dry rice dry and fresh, but it also keeps out insects and pests. The rice dispenser holds up to 26 pounds of rice, yet its compact shape stores neatly away in most kitchen cabinets. When it's time to cook up some rice, simply press the lever--one press accurately dispenses 1 cup of rice. The rice funnels smoothly into the bin below, which pulls out easily for convenient transport to the rice cooker or stove. The rice dispenser measures 14-1/2 by 9 by 18 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

After spending 6 to 10 hours roasting turkey (over night)and one time using this fryer for 45 minutes, I'll never roast turkey again. Also my family perferred the fried turkey, it was moist and delicious. I even tried mixing the the roast with the fried and everyone picked around the roasted turkey(a Butter Ball that was cooked to perfection). You can actually see the difference in texture of the meat. The price is also right. This fryer also has other uses, we worked it all summer with corn and lobster. Great product.

Panasonic SR-W18PB Rice Cooker/Steamer Review

Panasonic SR-W18PB Rice Cooker/Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After contemplating buying a rice cooker for a few weeks, I decided I would buy an entry level rice cooker. This came from the epiphany I had while eating another flavorless serving of instant brown rice. Being a bachelor, I need a way to prepare rice easily and quickly, so instant rice had been my choice for some years.
I had read several buying guides and reviews online, and knew I wanted the following features:
- It had to be under [price]. Being I had never cooked with a rice cooker, I did not want to spend too much money buying something I might not use or like.
- It had to have a non-stick surface on the pot
- It had to be by a reputible Japanese brand
- It had to have a steaming tray
- It had to be small, being I would only be cooking for myself
This model fit all the criteria. The rice comes out fantastic. I learned that although the owner's manual may say to use 1.25 cups of water for each cup of rice, the rice comes out too dry and even burns on the bottom. Using 2 cups of water to each cup of rice corrected this. I have so far cooked brown and basmati rice with the cooker and they both were excellent. I soak the rice for thirty minutes, then turn on the cooker. After about 20 to 30 minutes, the cooker turns off, and I have delicious, hot, moist, healthy rice.
This is a great, small, basic, and inexpensive cooker. Nothing fancy, just good rice. I know I will upgrade to a fancier model in the future, but for now, this Panasonic one is just fine.

Zojirushi NS-MYC10 Micom Fuzzy Logic 5.5 Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer Review

I never gave much thouht to cooking rice until I moved to Japan--and acquired a Japanese spouse!
But we're fussy about our rice here, and nobody would dream of being without a rice cooker. Rice cookers are actually pressure cookers, so the rice is always plump and perfect.
I have the equivalent Japanese model (the same but with a different faceplate). I've had it for almost fou years and it's a real workhorse. Zoji is a value-brand here in Japan, specialising in small appiances, and known for being simple and sturdy. I would choose them over some of the big Japanese names, given the quality problems I've had with some of the other well-known electrical brands that make everything from TVs to elevators.
The rice? Can't fault it. Nor can the other half, who's ultra-critical. Makes great oatmeal, too, but I can't get the other half interested in such exotic foreign foods.

This slow cooker seems to cook my meals awfully quick! For instance, on LOW setting, the meat was cooked in 3 hours.
For me this is too fast...I could definitely see it cooking fast on the HIGH setting, but LOW? Fortunately, I am a SAHM, but if I had to go to work, my food would be burnt by the time I got home, not good.
I am waiting for the company's response re this concern...
I do however, LOVE the fast that my food is cooking w/lots of minerals!

Freiling Pressure Cooker Speedo Review

Freiling Pressure Cooker Speedo
Average Reviews:

This product is a great buy. It is the 6.5 qt. model, or at least that is what I received (when I bought it there were no size specs on the site). It is heavy duty, from Sitram. Like the Sitram Profiserie, it has the induction ready magnetic stainless cladded, aluminum disk base with a 18-10 Stainless interior. The website is in French, so someday it may be a pain-in-the to get the seal replaced, and the manual has some pretty strange recipes in it, but for now I am very happy, especially because it makes the other option in my budget range, the Fagor, look pretty chinsy!

West Bend 53783 1-3/4-Quart Cordless Water Kettle, Black Review

West Bend 53783 1-3/4-Quart Cordless Water Kettle, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If your an expat or just an anglophile and you are left wondering, "Why doesn't America embrace the electric kettle?!" then this is the item for you. Sleek and aptly priced.
I don't know why you'd pay around $50 for something that just heats water... brand loyalty? I wouldn't pay the extra $15-$30 just for the flat metal plate that the Braun or Philips has. (The West Bend kettle has a metal coil to heat up the water: Yes, you have to clean the coiled versions, but it's exactly the same as cleaning out a coffee maker... white vinegar once in a blue moon. Hey, the Brits and the Irish don't mind the coil, why should I?)
The stouter version of this I think is too small, unless you live alone and don't drink that much tea/coffee/cocoa. Between us, my brother and I drink six to eight cups of tea a day, plus hot cereal on top of that and this kettle is more than sufficient (1.7 liters).
Some more good things:
It turns of automatically after it comes to a roaring boil.
See-through panel lets you see the water level.
So quiet, you wouldn't know it's on...
That's why it has a little red light that goes on.
Has a locking top so as to avoid spills.
The black fits in with my kitchen's decor.
It also comes in handy for when I'm cooking, using up all the burners and need just a bit of hot water, quickly. Or even if I am cooking rice or pasta, it's easier to heat up the water in the electric kettle and then pour it into the pot on the stove.
Two complaints: The cord is thick and not very flexible (the cord itself is about two feet). I have this plugged into the same outlet as my microwave and cannot use the two at the same time or else I'll have a circuit short... but then again, whoever remodeled the kitchen did a bad job on the electicity.
Makes a great present for any hot beverage lover or college student.

Coleman Two-Burner Propane Stove Review

Coleman Two-Burner Propane Stove
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned and loved a 5430C Coleman 2 burner propane stove for 6 years and recently ordered, directly from Coleman, another 5430, now produced in the F model, so that I could have a total of 4 burners on matching stoves. The first hint I had that the F model was deserving of the "F" designation was when I reached in the box and slightly cut my finger on the base which had not been properly fastened and tucked inside the lip of the top during manufacture. My first thought was that it had been damaged in shipping but there were no marks on the box and no dents in the thin sheet metal. Unlike the older model C which had rolled steel edges, sturdy hinges, and a positive locking latch, the model F has rough edges with abrasive burrs that remained exposed even after I disassembled it and put it back together with the base tucked into the top as it was designed. The lid has a piece of plastic that serves as a latch by snapping into a cutout on the top but it did not even make contact with the lip of the cutout. Using my fingers I warped the lid enough to get it to fit but when carrying the stove by the roughly cut hole that serves as a handle the lid pops open. I will say the burners work well but the construction is cheap, poorly assembled, and is a first aid event waiting to happen. The sad part is the printing on the box which says "MADE IN USA". As an Eagle scout, former assistant scoutmaster, avid RVer, and owner of various Coleman cooking and lighting appliances dating from WWII to the present, I am disappointed in a brand whose name has always been right there with apple pie, hot dogs, and the 4th of July. I can't say I won't buy Coleman in the future but I will, without a doubt, compare other brands for quality regardless of their country of origin. Wake up Coleman and spend a few more cents per unit to rebuild your reputation for quality. Your grade on this one is an "F"

Long the authority on propane camping stoves, Coleman steps up to the plate again with its two-burner PerfectFlow stove. Coleman's PerfectFlow appliances regulate the pressure of the propane to provide a consistent cooking performance without flaring or flickering. This steady fuel stream holds true even in cold weather, high altitudes, or when the fuel is low.The stove is equipped with two 10,000 BTU burners, with independently adjustable flames that let you boil water on high (in a mere 4-1/2 minutes) while you simmer chili on low. The fuel is long lasting as well: with just a single propane fuel cylinder (sold separately), you can use both burners on high for up to an hour--more than enough time to prepare a weekend's worth of meals. Plus, the stove includes Coleman's Windblock side panels, which not only shields the burners for maximum heat, but also adjusts outward to accommodate larger pot sizes. Propane stoves are perfect for almost any social outdoor activity, including camping, hunting, tailgating, and backyard cookouts. The PerfectFlow stove measures 23.25 by 5.5 by 14.75 inches (W x H x D) when closed and carries a three-year warranty.
About Coleman More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.
