Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Anniversary 3.7-Quart Pressure Cooker Review

Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Anniversary 3.7-Quart Pressure Cooker

I don't know what I would do without my pressure cooker! and I know I would not buy any other kind but Kuhn Rikon. There is no way to be disappointed with this product unless you just don't know how to use it. We are vegetarian and live on a very healthy, grain, rich in legumes type of diet .. my kids love rice cereal, steal cut oats ..etc. and I just can't imagine making life easy without one of these .. instead of having to plan ahead or wait 45minutes to 2 hours for some dishes *(like barley and wild rice) it takes anywhere from 2 minutes to steam veggies and cook pasta, to 30 minutes max for the harder grains (without soaking!) I highly recommend this product ... it is an essential must have in every kitchen! just throw everything in (all those yummy grains, veggies, and even meat if you like, with a good broth) lock it and let it do its thing! :)

This 8-inch, 3-3/4-quart pressure cooker celebrates Kuhn Rikon's 50 years of making great pressure cookers. Like all Kuhn Rikon cookers, this anniversary edition quickly and healthfully cooks foods with trapped steam at temperatures higher than boiling. It's the ideal size for singles, small families, and vegetarians, and makes dishes for three to five people. Pressure cooking requires little water so nutrients, flavor, and color are not boiled away. Made of heavyweight, mirror-finish, 18/10 stainless steel that won't react with food, the cooker has a stay-cool handle and an aluminum disk sandwiched in stainless steel in its bottom to quickly and uniformly conduct heat. A bright blue steam diffuser on the lid displays cooking times of 20 popular dishes. The cooker comes with a stainless-steel steaming trivet and a Quick Cuisine cookbook containing 100 pages of recipes and tips.
Kuhn Rikon Duromatic pressure cookers are designed with safety in mind. The automatic lid-locking device insures that no pressure can build up until the lid is put on correctly. The lid cannot be removed or come off until all pressure has been released. The cookers also provide the ultimate protection against excess pressure. The first indication that too much pressure has built up inside the cooker is the audible hiss as excess pressure is released through the valve. (When the user hears this, the heat should be turned down.) The valve will take care of any over pressurization by allowing steam to escape through the holes located on the valve stem. Additionally, another spring-loaded safety valve in the lid is set to release steam in case of a clogged main valve. This valve is not a "blow plug" like some old American cookers had, but a highly accurate spring-loaded valve that will open at a preset internal pressure and release steam safely and effectively.
This Duromatic pressure cooker can be used on any cooktop. It can go into the oven only at settings below 300 degrees F because of the stay-cool handle and valves. The pot is dishwasher safe, although the gasket and lid should be washed by hand. This pressure cooker carries a 10-year warrantee on all non-replaceable parts, material, and workmanship.

I was very disappointed when the cooker arrived. I discovered that it needed a 220v outlet and that information was not clearly stated anywhere in the description of the product. I feel that I am entitled to a full refund including shipping fees.

Cook up to 40 6-ounce cups of uncooked rice in about 40 minutes with this commercial rice cooker. Ideal for restaurants, catering, and more, it can provide 140 servings of 3-ounce portions. Simply add measured amounts of rice and water, cover, and push down the lever--it's that easy. The unit shuts itself off automatically once the rice has fully cooked, and its thermostat keeps cooked rice warm for up to two hours, virtually eliminating burning or overcooking. In addition, specially sheathed heating elements heat the pan bottom directly, which minimizes heat loss and in turn saves energy costs. For peace of mind, a built-in thermal safety fuse will protect the unit from possible overheating. The rice cooker's stainless-steel lid helps keep in heat and moisture, while its anodized-aluminum-alloy dent-resistant pan liner lifts easily out of the cooker to make washing and rinsing a breeze. Other highlights include cool-touch side handles, an "on" indicator light, and a 67-inch power cord. NSF-approved for commercial use, the 2235-watt large-capacity rice cooker measures 18-1/2 by 23-1/2 by 14 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Manttra Quick & Easy 6 Quarts Aluminum Pressure Cooker Review

I got this pressure cooker to tenderize very tough meats, cook beans faster, etc. I was a little worried since I never used a pressure cooker before, but this thing is really easy with clear labels for lock/unlock on the lid. A bright colored switch.
It also has a very sturdy design. It's worth 2x the amount you pay on amazon.
Caution: If you cook frothy things, boil off that stuff first, since it can clog the nozzles in the pressure cooker. That not something specific to this cooker, just a general safety tip for noobs to pressure cooking.

Sanyo ECJ-JG10W 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker with Induction Heating and Variable Pressure Control Review

Sanyo ECJ-JG10W 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker with Induction Heating and Variable Pressure Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's been a month since I bought the rice cooker. The rice cooker has been doing great. My family cook rice every day and have used different rice cookers for over three decades. Sanyo ECJ-JG10W is the best we ever used. When I received the rice cooker from Amazon, I got a chance to test it. Few months ago I bought 50 pounds of rice at C****o as it's 60% off regular price. Well, you get what you pay for. The rice got no taste or smell at all and we can tell that it's been sitting in the warehouse for a long long time. After few tries we gave up on it. As I got the new rice cooker, I used it to cook that old rice to see how good the rice cooker would be. It's very easy to use. Push the "start" button, wait for 40 minutes and the rice is ready. I was amazed by the magic it did. The rice was incredibly delicious. It's as delicious as the regular Japanese rice. I tried different white rice on it and the rice cooker upgraded them all! It's a little bit pricy but it's worth it. Now I am spoiled by my rice cooker so that I always complain the restaurants don't serve good rice when I eat out:D

Take the guesswork out of making restaurant-quality rice at home with this easy-to-use cooker. The handy appliance offers a 5-1/2-cup uncooked-rice capacity, producing up to 11 cups of cooked rice at a time--great when gathering a group of friends or the whole family for dinner. Simply add dry rice, measure in the water, make a selection from the one-touch control panel, and push the "start" button. Thoughtfully designed, the micro-computerized cooker features induction heating for fast, even heating; variable pressure-control technology for enhanced taste and flavor, and Fuzzy Logic technology, which automatically makes fine adjustments to the temperature and heating time to ensure perfectly cooked rice. It also provides a two-layer, extra-thick (2-1/2 mm) nonstick inner pot with a copper-coated exterior for maximum heat distribution. Once the rice has cooked, the appliance automatically switches over to keep-warm mode, which maintains an ideal serving temperature for up to 30 hours. In addition, the unit's large LCD clock offers a timer function that allows for meals to be ready up to 24 hours ahead of time, which means dinner can be ready and waiting after a long day at the office. Choose from a variety of menu options including rice dishes such as white, rinse-free, haiga, brown, sprouted brown, sweet, mixed, sushi, zakkoku, wild, and Dol Sot Bi Bim Bab. Even more, it offers a pre-soak function for additional rice-soaking time, a steam function for steaming vegetables (with included steam tray), a slow-cook function for preparing soups and stews, and a sleep function for extended keep-warm time and energy savings. Other highlights include a locking device for safe pressure cooking; multi-texture selections for regular, firm, or soft; a removable steam vent; a retractable cord; and a carrying handle for taking cooked food right to the table. Accessories include a handy measuring cup, spatula, and multi-language instruction manual with recipes. Made in Japan, the 1200-watt cooker measures approximately 14-7/8 by 10-1/2 by 8-3/4 inches.

Aroma Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Review

Aroma Stainless Steel Rice Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Aroma rice cooker deserves someone's seal of approval, so I'll give it mine. I especially like the brown rice and steaming functions it offers. It's also a nice size for a small family. It doesn't take forever to cook your rice the way some of the fancier, more expensive ones do, and it keeps it warm for you automatically. One feature it does not have is a removable lid. I have other rice cookers with lids that detach, and that makes cleanup easier. However, that lack doesn't keep me from liking this appliance. If you think your rice cooker needs a timer, this one doesn't have that either, but I haven't missed not having it. You can prepare other dishes besides rice in it, such as steel cut oats, soups, chili, even stew. It's so nice not to have to prepare rice on your cooktop. Try this cooker. I think you'll appreciate its convenience.

Manttra 4 Quarts Aluminum Pressure Cooker Review

Manttra 4 Quarts Aluminum Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our old pressure cooker starts to leak after several years of use so we decided to find a replacement. This one seemed a good one for us, it's small, light and the look is not bad. So we bought this one but then it turned out a big mistake.
First, it leaks. Water leaks and it's really a mess. We have to keep wiping out leaked water. Second, the pressure is just too light, it takes even longer than a regular cooker to make a steam rice. What a joke!
We ended up throwing it away just after a couple of use. Last weekend wife grab one from a local store, works perfect. I'll never buy any product from this brand.

Aroma ARC-560 Rice Pasta Gourmet Rice & Pasta Cooker Review

Aroma ARC-560 Rice Pasta Gourmet Rice and Pasta Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this rice and pasta cooker for several weeks, and I get a lot of use out of it. I love that I can cook rice and steam vegetables at the same time with it. The non-stick surface actually works! I have had no need at all to scrub or scrape at it. Even when I've forgotten half a pot of rice on the counter overnight, the dried up rice just falls right out of the pot. It also works better than my stovetop for making pasta -- I use wheatless pastas made of rice or corn, and they can be a little tricky to cook.
It's rather expensive, but so far I have really enjoyed having it. I had a cheaper rice cooker before, and it was ok, but this really is a lot better.

Global Sun Oven - Solar Cooker Review

Global Sun Oven - Solar Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First use yesterday. Wash, DC area. Late winter, sunny. Ambient temp was high 50s to low 60s. Max temp of about 325, with the built-in thermometer showing 310 - 315 most of the 1.5 hours it was in use. Adapted a recipe from "Glorious One-Pot Meals" by Elizabeth Yarnell (available from Amazon) using an old one quart Pyrex dutch oven and doubling the cooking time.
The finished meal cooked up nicely. The original recipe called for 45 minutes @ 450 degrees. I'm an inexperienced cook, but interestingly, the lower temp and necessarily longer cooking time seemed to produce more liquid.
My one caveat is to follow the directions to pre-heat the oven and clean its interior well before your first use. The interior is plastic. I let the oven heat up a little, then ran a wet paper towel over everything. Off-gassing of the plastic that likely would have occurred had I followed the manufacturer's directions, instead occurred while my meal was cooking. Result was a slight plastic-y (and assuredly carcinogenic) taste in that first dish.
Good build quality, but clearly from a small factory. Not meant to be pejorative. In fact, I like the idea of the company being a small business, particularly in the U.S. However, we're used to perfect looking, assembly line manufactured, robotically assembled stuff and this isn't. The plastic shell appears to be custom fabricated. The other parts are off-the-shelf components that have been adapted for this use and clearly assembled by hand. Hence, you'll find exposed, untrimmed rivets and an entirely functional but somewhat roughly finished wooden frame to which the hardware is attached.
All in all, I like it and it's worth its purchase price -- generally between $240 and $300 depending on the retailer.
Pro:
Works as advertised. Good build quality. Easily maintained temps above 300 degrees.
Con:
Plastic interior -- SEE BELOW!
23 Augusst 2008 Update -- after reading the comments on my and others' reviews, have double-checked and the interior is in fact metal. Nevertheless, follow the instructions and pre-heat a time or two before first use to allow the interior paint to finish curing, off-gas, etc.
Enjoy! Good stuff!

S-9892 pressure cooker gasket seal, fits Mirro. Review

S-9892 pressure cooker gasket seal, fits Mirro.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wish I had gotten a new one a long time ago; this new one fits so much better and thus seals so much faster. It is terrific!
You know, after writing that stunning review I've had 3 bad experiences; this new gasket is thinner than the original 1970's gasket, and 3 times it's rolled over when the lid is "screwed-on" and the pressure has forced it's way out the side of the lid, rather than out the top hole, which is scary and could be dangerous. I know the gasket is placed correctly and the lid is on correctly and the pressure hole is open; so it's just an unfortunate thing that this gasket does not fit and now I'm afraid of my pressure cooker with this gasket ...

Schlemmertopf Classic Glazed Clay Cooker, Large Review

Schlemmertopf Classic Glazed Clay Cooker, Large
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a large Schlemmertopf (the original kind, made in Germany--I believe some of the newer ones are made in Mexico) at a garage sale with no documentation, so I needed to do a little research on how to use it. Found out I needed to soak the lid for about 15 minutes before using it, and that it must always be put in a cold oven when you start cooking the food in it.
I started experimenting with putting various kinds of meat, chicken & fish in it, with lots of vegetables and light sauces and fresh herbs. Everything I have ever cooked in it turned out moist, flavorful, and big-time delicious. I now always think of using the Schlemmertopf pot first when I'm making a dinner from scratch. It holds moisture in, and the flavors in the pot get blended and the herb flavors infuse everything in the pot. Now, I wouldn't want to be without one.
Amazon carries some useful cookbooks about cooking in clay pots, and I recommend getting at least one of them as a guide. But for the most part now that I have some experience using it, I just make the recipes up using whatever meat, veggies and herbs I have in the house and can always feel confident that the food will come out of the Schlemmertopf tasting great. It's also a very healthful way to cook because you don't have to add any oil to the Schlemmertopf. It's an absolute kitchen necessity for me now.

Elite Platinum 6qt Digital Electronic Pressure Cooker Review

Elite Platinum 6qt Digital Electronic Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this pressure cooker. I made some of the best chicken parm ever in it. And it is great for stock. and soup... and beets are great in it and so quick. I just honestly cant complain...
I know that the PSI of this pressure cooker being electronic is lower than the highest of 15 in the manual ones. However, i love the ability to "set it and forget it" I would hate to worry about the stove being on while the pressure cooker is on.
I love how i can sear something inside of this and then turn on the pressure part and finish it off in one part.and , i also love that the company stood by their product when i had a problem. After i made my chicken parm the bottom was ruined, i soaked and i used a magic eraser and to my horror the non stick coating came off, i was really angry b/c this is not a cheap item and because i use it all the time!
I emailed the company a photo and within 2 min someone called me and a replacement was on the way to me. THAT IS AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE.
the only reason i am giving 4 stars is to be a bit fair in the fact that i did have to call and get a replacement and it would have been nice for the inner pot to be non stick and indestructible . Also, it would be nice to be able to adjust the PSI, a low psi, med and the high 12 setting would be ideal
Also, would be really cool if there was an optional trivet accessory for this for when making roasts inside.
Next time i make chicken parm i plan on lining the bottom with some foil to avoid such bad sticking, even though most likely my inner pot was defective and not properly coated, i just want to err on the side of caution.
